Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the reaches of human understanding? What secrets do the desolate stretches of America's Southern border hold? Stories from Rocky Almore and other former Border Patrol staff paint a chilling picture of haunting incidents that have left many questioning the nature of the entities encountered. Are they supernatural specters, or something far more tangible? Let's delve into the shadowy tales of the Border Patrol and uncover the mysteries that lie in the dark.
In the mid-1990s, Border Patrol agents in California's Otay Mountain region faced a series of inexplicable events. Terrified migrants reported encounters with the ghost of a recently deceased colleague, leading to questions about the supernatural nature of these experiences. But these incidents were not confined to one region. Similar mysterious encounters occurred along the same border, from San Diego to Texas.
One eerie incident took place near a river crossing at Fort Hancock, Texas. A group of migrants, attempting to enter the United States, were haunted by a female voice howling in the night. They believed it to be the vengeful spirit of Lerona, a woman who drowned her children in a fit of rage. The migrants refused to leave the safety of the bridge, fearing the spirit would use the darkness to abduct the children they were escorting. When the agents arrived, they found no other thermal signatures in the area, leaving them bewildered and terrified.
Leon Baker, a Border Patrol agent in the Isleta region of El Paso, experienced his own haunting encounters. The Head Gates area, a canal that terminates in the southern part of the city, was a place that unnerved many agents. It was the final resting place for numerous migrants who drowned in the dark. Leon and his colleagues had several encounters with shadowy figures that vanished when light was shone upon them, leaving no trace on the barren ground.
The Smelter Town cemetery, founded during the 1800s, was another site of mysterious encounters. Stones were thrown at vehicles, and the spirits of dead children were reportedly seen and heard giggling or singing nursery rhymes. One agent even claimed to have seen a small girl in a floral dress sitting in his truck, only to vanish into thin air, leaving the doors locked as they were before.
The introduction of thermal imaging devices to the Border Patrol brought new mysteries. Agents reported observing thermal targets moving over the terrain that were not visible to the naked eye. In one incident, a figure walking confidently along a riverbank vanished into thin air when approached. Another incident involved a large humanoid figure, covered in fur, charging towards a group of migrants, only to disappear as the agents approached.
The striking feature of these incidents is the lack of physical evidence in an area abundant with tracks and signs of human passage. This raises the question: Are these experiences the result of the pressures and fatigue faced by the agents, or do they originate from a realm entirely different from the human world? Perhaps the migrants crossing the border understand this realm better than those trying to detain them.
