Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), Dr. Kuhl and his team observe patterns of neural activity. When a memory is formed, there's a unique pattern, and they can record this pattern. The next step? Decoding. By analyzing the recorded patterns, they predict what is being remembered or thought.
Imagine a world where we can reconstruct the faces we remember just by reading our brain activity. That's exactly what Dr. Kuhl sets out to do. He has me study 12 celebrity photos, memorize them, and then enter an fMRI scanner to visualize these faces as vividly as possible. The goal?
