Peace activist and author Harsh Mander, director of the Center for Equity Studies in India, accuses Prime Minister Modi of hate speech and calls for a united stand against the violence. "The BJP and the RSS believe in an India in which the Muslim minority would have to live as second-class citizens," he says. With a Muslim population larger than that of Germany, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands combined, the stakes are incredibly high.
As the BJP and Modi prepare for another term, the question remains: How can we reverse this trend? Mander believes that the majority of Indians who did not vote for Modi must stand firmly with the Muslim community, opposing the violence and hate they face. "It is for people like me who don't belong to the Muslim faith to stand and speak out," he asserts.
