When you entrust me with the honor of serving this office, I pledge to always be truthful with you, for the sacred cause of our nation transcends any individual. The essence of American democracy demands our collective commitment and cherish. In recent weeks, it has become increasingly clear to me that uniting my party is crucial to this endeavor. While I believe my presidency, leadership, and vision for America's future warranted a second term, I realize that nothing must obstruct our democracy, not even personal ambition.

So, I have come to a decision. The best path forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the key to uniting our nation. There is a time and place for seasoned experience in public life, but equally, there is a need for fresh, younger voices. Over the next six months, my focus will remain on fulfilling my duties as president. This means continuing to lower costs for hardworking families, fostering economic growth, defending our personal freedoms and civil rights, and standing against hate and extremism.

But let's pause for a moment. What does it mean to defend our democracy? What is at stake when we talk about passing the torch? These questions are not merely rhetorical; they are the bedrock of our nation's future.

In just a few months, the American people will decide the course of our future. I have made my choice, and my views are clear. I would like to express my gratitude to our remarkable Vice President, Kamala Harris. Her experience, tenacity, and capability have made her an incredible partner and a leader for our country.

Now, the choice is yours, the American people. As you make that choice, remember the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin, which hangs on my office wall alongside the busts of Dr. King, Rosa Parks, and Cesar Chavez. When Franklin was asked whether the Founders had given America a monarchy or a republic, he responded, "A republic, if you can keep it." The fate of our republic is now in your hands.

The beauty of America is that kings and dictators do not rule; the people do. History is in your hands, the power is in your hands, and the idea of America lies in your hands. We must keep the faith and remember who we are—the United States of America. There is nothing beyond our capacity when we work together.

As we stand on the precipice of change, let us embrace the challenge with unity and purpose. The torch has been passed, and it is our responsibility to carry it forward, ensuring that the beacon of American democracy continues to shine brightly for generations to come.
